Request for Additional Proof of Identification
Date: 10/20/2023 The Village of Richmondville is requesting that existing customers provide a photocopy of a government-issued document certifying the identity of the customer on file with the account. Appropriate forms of government-issued certification include: a Driver’s License, a Non-Driver Photo Identification Card, a Learner Permit, a United States Passport, or a United States Passport Card. We will need your Social Security Number and any persons wishing to be on the account. This additional information is being requested to ensure that existing customer accounts conform with recently established procedures for approving new applicants for electric service. Pursuant to 16 NYCRR § 11.3(a)(v), in addition to requiring that a new applicant for electric service provide their name, address, telephone number, address of prior account (if any) and prior account number (if any), the Utility “may establish non-discriminatory procedures to require an applicant to provide reasonable proof of the applicant’s identity. Service may be denied to applicants who fail to provide reasonable proof of identity.” Therefore, as of 10/1/2023 the Village of Richmondville requires all applicants for electric service to provide a photocopy of a government-issued document certifying the identity of the customer as a prerequisite for providing service. We are requesting that existing customers provide this additional information to ensure that the Village of Richmondville is able to maintain accurate and consistent customer records.
